The Victoria Jazz Band (aka ‘VJB’) is Hong Kong's longest-established swing jazz band. Some of the members have been playing together in Hong Kong for over 40 years, having started in the early 70s at the iconic Godown in Central, which was then Hong Kong’s top live jazz venue.
As Hong Kong's premier swing band, the VJB has been the supporting act for top international jazz stars at The Hong Kong Jazz Festival, as well as appearing at the Kobe, Osaka and Macau Jazz Festivals. The VJB has appeared regularly at Cafe Deco on The Peak, the original Jazz Club in Lan Kwai Fong and the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre and frequently performed at Government House at the Consular Corps Ball and other such formal functions. The VJB regularly performs at one-off private functions such as weddings, birthday parties, balls and corporate functions in Hong Kong, Macau and around the region and frequently tops the bill at the popular HK Street Music concerts held in open-air venues around Hong Kong.
The regular band lineup consists of Colin (trumpet/vocals), Janaia (vocals), Bayani (alto sax), Oliver (tenor sax), Joseph (trombone), Peter (piano), Tom (drums), Steve (bass) and Ken (guitar). The members hail from England, Scotland, USA, France, Japan, Philippines and Canada. The band regularly features other leading local guest musicians as part of the lineup.
