Frequently Asked Questions
In its full lineup the VJB has between 7 to 9 musicians, usually vocalist, 3 to 5 'front line' (horn) players plus a 3-man rythym section. A smaller 5 or 6 piece lineup is also available to suit limited budgets, depending upon the style of the function and type of music required.

types of music do you play?
We have a wide ranging repertoire of jazz numbers (view VJB playlist) including swing, Dixeliand, Trad, New Orleans, blues and big band numbers, as well as Latin. Several members of the band sing the jazz standards (male and/or female vocalists). Basically we play music from the 20s through to the 50s. We are NOT a pop group - so please don't expect us to play pop/rock etc (we suggest you hire a DJ or pop band to alternate with us if you also require some of that sort of music for your function).
you play 'themed' events?
Yes, we often perform at events with themes such as Roaring 20s or 'Gangsters & Molls. These are great fun, with the guests dressing up accordingly!
We can also arrange one or two couples of expert ‘Swing’ dancers to put on a show for your guests whilst we play. Or to add to the fun, to teach your guests some simple ‘Lindy Hop’ style dance steps, so they can dance along with us. It is something different and very enjoyable for your guests!
equipment do you need?
We require a PA/sound system (mics, amp/mixer & speakers), a piano or suitable electronic keyboard with amplifier, a bass amp and a drum kit. If any such equipment is available at the venue, then we may be able to use that. We will arrange to hire whatever is not available at the venue and will include the equipment hire cost in our quotation.
long do you normally play for?
Normally we perform for between 2 and 3 hours, with a short break of around 10 minutes after approx. each hour. However this can be adjusted to fit your event program.
